*Over 40% of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered respondents report that they have observed harassment based on sexual orientation by faculty/staff over the previous two years. (2004 Campus Climate Survey)
* Nearly half (49.5%) of LGBT people are not “out” in their departments. (2004 Campus Climate Survey)
A Message from President Kenny: "In keeping with one of the major goals of the University's new Five Year Plan, the purpose of the Campus Climate Report and Action Plan is to ensure that "Stony Brook will become a model campus for providing an inclusive multicultural environment to all students, faculty, and staff."
The Safe Space Program is one of the goals to be implemented in the action plan for the President's Task Force for Campus Climate.
28 faculty, staff, and students have participated in the "Train the Trainer" class on June 26th. The day long training will provide the ability to start the 3 hour Safe Space classes being offered this Fall semester.
32 faculty, staff and students were trained on October 30th to be the first Safe Space participants and trainers! (Pictured below)

Individuals who are once trained can display the Safe Space sticker and become a valuable resource for the community on campus.
